7-4: Bicycles, Skateboards, and Other Un-motorized, Wheeled Devices on Campus

I. PURPOSE
The College has been designated as a pedestrian campus with the safety and welfare of the campus community in mind. This policy defines the use of bicycles, skateboards, in-line skates, scooters and similar un-motorized, wheeled devices on campus to insure personal safety and minimize maintenance, cleaning, and repairs of campus buildings and grounds.
II. THE POLICY
It shall be the policy of Fort Lewis College that:
A. Bicycles, skateboards, in-line skates, scooters, and other similar un-motorized, wheeled devices must be operated under control AT ALL TIMES.
B. Bicycles, skateboards, in-line skates, scooters, or other similar un-motorized wheeled devices are NOT allowed to be operated in any buildings and are NOT allowed on any walls and/or railings.
C. Bicycles are ONLY allowed in buildings if they are housed in faculty or staff offices. Students may house bicycles ONLY in residence halls or apartments, otherwise, they may be locked in bicycle racks outside campus buildings. Care must be taken to not damage the walls, railings, doors, frames, or any other interior part of campus buildings. Due to the potential for a fire hazard, bicycles must not be left in the hallways.
D. Skateboards, in-line skates, and scooters are NOT allowed on public roadways.
E. Violation of this policy may result in fines, confiscation of the equipment, and/or disciplinary action.
F. Pedestrians always have the right of way on the campus.
