I. Policy Statement- Requirements for Award of an initial baccalaureate degree.
- Students must complete the following curriculum requirements as stated in the effective catalog at the specified level of academic achievement to be awarded a baccalaureate degree:
- A minimum of 120 credit hours with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.00.
- A minimum of 36 credit hours in upper-division (300- or 400-level) courses with the minimum grade specified for completion of each course.
- All required liberal education courses with the minimum grade specified for completion of each course.
- Students who have earned an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree from a Colorado public two-year institution are exempt from this requirement.
- Students who have earned an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree from an out-of-state two-year institution may be exempt from this requirement if the Associate Dean for the School of Arts and Sciences has determined that the liberal education requirements at that institution are equivalent to those in the effective catalog.
- All required prerequisite, departmental, and auxiliary courses in one major with the minimum grade specified for completion of each course with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.00 for the courses meeting major requirements. Courses completed in fulfillment of policy statement 1.A.iii. may also fulfill these requirements.
- Students may complete these optional degree program components as stated in the effective catalog, subject to these restrictions:
- Concentration in a major.
- Students are restricted to one concentration in each major.
- Students complete all requirements for the concentration for the concentration to be awarded.
- Two majors in the Bachelor of Arts degree program or two majors in the Bachelor of Science degree program (double major):
- Students are restricted to two majors.
- Students must earn 27 discrete credit hours in each major.
- Students must complete the requirements for both majors prior to award of a baccalaureate degree.
- Students must meet the requirements of policy statement 1.A.iv. for each major.
- One major in a Bachelor of Arts degree program and one major in a Bachelor of Science degree program (dual degree):
- Students are restricted to one major in each degree program.
- Students must earn 27 discrete credit hours in each major.
- Students must complete requirements for both majors prior to award of a baccalaureate degree.
- Must earn 27 discrete credits for each major.
- Must meet the requirements of policy statement 1.A.iv. for each major.
- Minor:
- Students are restricted to two minors.
- Students must earn 12 discrete credit hours from any other declared major, minor, or undergraduate certificate.
- Students must complete requirements for a minor prior to award of a baccalaureate degree.
- Students must complete all required prerequisite, departmental, and auxiliary courses for a minor with the minimum grade specified for completion of each course and with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.00 for the courses meeting minor requirements. Courses completed in fulfillment of policy statement 1.A.iii. may also fulfill these requirements subject to the requirement of policy statement 1.A.3.b.
- Requirements for Award of a Second Baccalaureate Degree.
- Students who have earned an initial baccalaureate degree at Fort Lewis College or another regionally accredited institution may complete a second baccalaureate degree at Fort Lewis College, subject to these restrictions:
- The second baccalaureate degree cannot be in the discipline as a previously earned baccalaureate degree, even if the initial degree program was a Bachelor’s of Science and the second or subsequent degree program will be a Bachelor’s of Arts, or vice versa.
- The second baccalaureate degree may be in a discipline for which the student earned a minor in the initial baccalaureate degree.
- A minimum of 30 credit hours with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.00 must be earned at Fort Lewis College subsequent to the award of the initial baccalaureate degree.
- All requirements for liberal education as stated in the effective catalog must be completed with the minimum grade specified for each course.
- Students who have earned a Bachelor’s of Arts or a Bachelor’s of Science degree are exempted from this requirement.
- All prerequisite, departmental, and auxiliary requirements for one major must be completed with the minimum grade specified for each course with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.00 for the courses meeting major requirements.
- Post-baccalaureate students may pursue a concentration in the major, a double major, or a dual degree subject to the restrictions in policy statements 1.A.v.
- Post-baccalaureate students may pursue one or more minors subject to the restrictions in policy statements 1.A. v.
- Any exceptions to policy statements 1A.-2.C. must be authorized by the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.
