I. Policy Statement

Commercial smoking, vaping, and the sale and use of tobacco products, vaping products, and e-cigarettes are prohibited in all campus owned and operated buildings and grounds. The use of spiritual/traditional tobacco is allowed.  The Student Housing policy regarding notification of smudging remains in effect.

II. Reason for Policy 

To comply with Executive Order B 2018-011 and to provide healthy environment for faculty, staff, students, and visitors.

III. Responsibilities 

For following the policy: All employees, students and campus visitors

For enforcement of the policy: All employees and students

For oversight of the policy: President

For notification of policy: Policy Librarian

IV. Definitions 

Smoking: Smoking any substance, including but not limited to, commercial tobacco, cloves, or marijuana.

Smoking Products:  include, but are not limited to, all commercial cigarette products (cigarettes, bidis, kreteks, e-cigarettes, etc.) and all commercial smoke-producing products (cigars, pipes, hookahs, vaporizers, etc.).

Commercial smoking: Smoking using commercial tobacco, which is manufactured by companies for recreational and habitual use in cigarettes, smokeless tobacco, pipes, cigars, hookahs, and other products. Typically, contains chemical additives.

VI. Consequences of Non-Compliance

  • Students may be referred to the Student Affairs Office. Violation of this policy is a violation of the Student Code of Conduct.
  • Employees may be referred to their respective supervisor for appropriate action.
